[/size]It first started with a red meat recall for all meat produced in the small town of Coconut Grove in Hawaii. The cows were dying of a slow virus that seemed much like ‘Mad Cow’ disease that slowly descended into death. Many thought it couldn’t be transferred to humans. They were wrong. First the farmers who tended to the cows got it, then their family members, then all that they had come in contact with and so on and so forth. It overtook its host with a rage type of virus, in addition to gangrene and necrosis. The virus also caused effects on their brains quite like what syphilis does, turning the mass of vessels into Swiss cheese. The holes cause a craziness that is marked by a severe need to eat any kind of live flesh and the ability to no longer feel pain.
Twenty years later, Coconut Grove and its surrounding areas have become a complete waste land. The military has tried to do its best to contain the virus and save the few existing people, but what they set up to protect the people has become more of a concentration camp. With barbed wire fences and sniper towers, its inhabitants are starting to wonder if they’re trying to keep the virus out, or them in. And then there are the other survivors. The ones who escaped the military quarantine. Currently led by their voted in ‘Mother’ and ‘Father’ the small group of 15 people is doing their best to live, not just survive.
